$995 room incl util in Glover Park [Jul. 19th, 2009|11:26 am]

washingtondc

[jinglot]
Hi! My roommate is leaving me to go live with her boyfriend so I'm looking for someone to take over her room. It's in Glover Park (just north of Georgetown). The rent of $995 includes all utilities. Also, the room is unfurnished. Here's the ad:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/roo/1277374345.html

It should be available end of July (not sure of the date yet) but definitely by Aug 1. It's a 6 month lease, after which it becomes month to month. No pets and I would prefer to live with a female.

Email me through the ad or comment here if you have any questions or want to see it. Hope to hear from someone soon!

Asian Grill [Jul. 19th, 2009|09:50 am]

Does anyone know if Asian Grill Cafe up in UMD College Park still exists? I've been calling their phone for the past few days, but I've always received a busy signal. When I called this morning, I was informed that the line had been disconnected. I live a little too far away to drive up and confirm on my own, so I was wondering if anyone here knew. Thanks!

Coolers at Screen on the Green? [Jul. 18th, 2009|04:49 pm]

Can we bring a cooler to screen on the green? I've got a nice big one with with wheels that our group wants to use to keep dinner and drinks cool. Are they allowed or will we be told to take it away? I know the mall has all sorts of weird rules and regulations.

Thanks!

Crab Cakes [Jul. 17th, 2009|06:09 pm]

[ayala920]
My Chicago-native parents are coming to visit this week, and my father desperately wants crab cakes (I think it's the real reason they're coming to visit).  We're already planning on making a trip to Annapolis, which I figure is our best bet for good crab cakes.

Anyone have suggestions in Annapolis for good crab cakes?  We'd like something that has non-seafood options, since I'm a vegetarian and my mother doesn't eat fish.

Thanks all!

Otakon? [Jul. 17th, 2009|01:56 pm]

[Current Mood | hopeful]

Anyone here going to Otakon in Baltimore this weekend? My car is in the new-noise-every-day stage of its life, which makes car pooling very, very appealing. I am of course willing to split gas and parking costs if anyone is willing to cart my nerdy butt up there! I suspect I'm outta luck for today since I won't be able to go til 6pm or so, but I could leave/return anytime Saturday and Sunday.

(apologies for x-posting)

I just wanted to say thank you all for your help with my post a week or so ago asking about parking and use of the Metro on our trip there.

Y'all were absolutely right - the Metro was the way to go, easy to use and cheaper than parking.  Our autistic daughter really enjoyed riding it!  Each day we took the Blue Line in from Franconia/Springfield to downtown, then made our way back in the evening.  We were planning on driving out to the National Zoo on the third day we were there, but we had found to going on the Metro so easy we bit the bullet and took the Metro, transferring to the red line without a hitch.  My only tiny gripe - which wasn't much really. )

We had a wonderful time, thanks!

Eye drop guide? [Jul. 16th, 2009|10:35 am]

I suck at getting eye drops in my eyes, and I was hoping to find an eye drop guide (like this: http://www.amazon.com/Apex-Sure-Drop-Guide-Pack/dp/B000XPV61Y/ref=pd_bxgy_hpc_img_b ) in a local drugstore, but so far, I've struck out. Anyone know where I might find such a thing?

Good Decent Passable Falafel in the Downtown area (specifically Metro Center area)?

I've done my requisite Google searching to little avail. And nothing would please me more than to hit up Amsterdam Falafel on my lunch break, but it's too bloody far.

Hey gays! Super gay (and lesbian, too!) comedy THIS SUNDAY in B'more, then Rehoboth! [Jul. 15th, 2009|05:28 pm]

washingtondc

[pegsioux]
[Current Mood | amused]

Pssst!

This is *actual gay comedy* with actual gay (and they're REALLLY GAY) comedians, folks. You heard right. Actual gays! Doing THREE WHOLE shows, even!

Translation: this is NOT some sophomoric straight asshole being "ironic" or "edgy" by acting out every single stupid stereotype about gay men and expecting us all to say ha ha ha! I am so AMUSED that a heterosexual dude is playing up all ugly things gay so that he can a) make money and b) make money and c) oh yeah, MAKE MONEY.

Where was I? Oh yeah, money. These shows are bargains, people. Three fantastic queer comedians for awfully damn cheap.

First there's kickass cable TV and Logo Network regular ANT, then the aptly named (and ridiculously cute) Jason Dudey, and my own personal favorite badass dyke comedian Sabrina Matthews. I can personally vouch for her stupidly high stage show laugh-levels, and I'm not just saying that because her Comedy Central tv special was AWESOME (although it did crack me the hell up).

Flyers after the cut. Because I care, people.

Coin Counting Machines [Jul. 15th, 2009|02:02 pm]

Does anyone know where I can go to use a free coin counting machine? I know that Chevy Chase used to do it, but their website now indicates that it is for customers only. The Commerce Bank web site has a memo dated 2000 that says that they offer it, but I'm not sure if that is still true and they also don't have an option to search branches that have the machines. I couldn't find anything on Bank of America's website.

Anyone have any luck with free coin counting machines IN the District? Also, I definitely want the cash. I don't want to trade my money in for a gift certificate.

Bunkie boards and slats [Jul. 15th, 2009|01:26 pm]

[leviathaen]
Where would someone go to buy bunkie boards and bunk bed slats in the Mclean area? I just moved here a couple of days ago, and I am pretty much clueless of my store options. Unfortunately craigslist isn't helping in my search at this time. I do not need a twin mattress, just a twin size bunkie board.

Thanks!

International Market in NW DC [Jul. 14th, 2009|06:32 pm]

[decembering]
[Current Location |NoVA]

I'm starting a graduate program at American University in a little under two weeks. I'll be living on Massachusetts ave NW for the year. I won't have a meal plan, and I'm planning to do most of my own cooking. Lately I am really into Japanese bento and cook a lot of food with international ingredients.

My question is, does anyone know of a good international market around the Tenleytown or Glover Park area? I have a car, so it's not a problem if you know of a good one a little farther away. Thanks in advance!

Washington City, DC, Circa 1862 [Jul. 14th, 2009|08:39 am]

[androgylicious]
On a recent excursion to Dead Generals Park, I encountered this map of Washington City in 1862. I found it interesting. As you can see, the map implies that almost the entire NW was nothing more than farmland at the time:

One more under cut )

If you want to see other photos from the park, you can view them on my journal. I thought these maps were thought provoking if nothing else.

Couples massage? [Jul. 13th, 2009|03:05 pm]

washingtondc

[static_ninja]
Does anyone have suggestions for places that do couples massage in the area?  It doesn't have to be super fancy (I'm on a budget) but I'd ideally like to find a place that allows you to be in the same room as each other (the boyfriend has never had a massage before and is nervous about going alone).  I live in the Greenbelt area but am willing to drive/metro for the right place.

Thanks!
